I guess I won't be good as a day trader.

Robert Deel, who operates an online trading school from Murrieta, California, says the worst day traders are engineers, doctors, lawyers, dentists, economists, computer programmers, accountants and entrepreneurs. Mr. Deel says psychological characteristics common to these successful individuals tend to hamstring them as day traders.

Man, it sure as hell would take more than just spooning for me to ejaculate!

Near the end of the flight, the FBI said Gonzalez sat next to the woman as she was trying to sleep. He touched her, which she described as spooning, lifted her shirt and then got up and left. Court documents said she felt a warm fluid on her back, clothes and seat after he walked away. She told the officers he had ejaculated on her.

Merit Badge Effect

"The other benefit of the logbook is the Merit Badge Effect. People seem to have a chipmunk-like hoarding instinct, whereby once they start collecting something, whether it be Scout merit badges, bottle caps, or hours worked on a thesis, they want more and more. The secret is to turn your hours into a collection. It sounds silly, but it may work for you. After you've been collecting hours for a few days, you'll start thinking, 'I earned ten hours yesterday. Wonder if i can get eleven today?'" - Getting What You Came For, RL Peters.

Efficient Algorithm for Training Neural Networks with one Hidden Layer

The LM algorithm is now considered as the most efficient[6]. It
combines the speed of the Newton algorithm with the
stability of the steepest decent method.

Automatic initialization

The database initialization step is not absolutely necessary. For instance, in the HSQL-based examples early in the book, we configure Seam to automatically create table schema based on the entity bean annotations (see last section in this chapter). We then place an import.sql file in the EJB3 JAR file. The SQL INSERT statements in the import.sql file are automatically executed when the application is deployed.

What your Sleeping position says about you

Levernberg-Marquadt

I think Marquardt's original paper appeared in a SIAM (Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics) Journal somewhere around 1975.

As I recall:

Basically this is a compromise between steepest descent (very slow convergence, but converges from anywhere) and Newton's method (very fast convergence, but converges only close to the optimum). Newton's method also has the disadvantage of requiring computation of the Hessian matrix (the second derivative with respect to all pairs of variables x_i, x_j), or actually it's inverse. This is a very expensive computation.

The Newton direction is often not the same direction as the steepest descent. Levenberg-Marquardt attempts to use Newton (or perhaps a variant of Newton, using a positive definite approximation to the Hessian) wherever it gives good descent results, and steepest descent where it doesn't. There is a parameter which causes the update direction to vary between the two directions, and which also controls step size. The algorithm continuously varies this parameter to maintain descent as speedy as possible while ensuring that the steps are indeed descents.

I don't like to code.

Summing up: programmers don’t like to code, we like to solve problems. Coding is not problem solving, but software problem solving usually involves some coding. Even when we talk about rewriting something, the objective is not to code, it’s usually to get a better understanding of the problem for solving in the best possible manner.

Toigo, who has been testing the new Zetera-enabled NETGEAR box for the past month, said that the technology is "utter simplicity to deploy and use" and "performs with greater alacrity" than any of the low-end NAS products. "It is the perfect compliment to media servers and MP3 players for the consumer market in its current manifestation," Toigo said, "but I expect to see Zetera technology and architecture climbing the storage food chain in the near future to meet the business needs of millions of companies."
