Is Apache Derby, the SQL database written in Java, the answer to allowing web applications to run offline? David Berlind of ZDNet thinks so, and he's pointing to Sun's distribution of Derby (JavaDB) as the proof. Can it ever succeed? Is this the rebirth of Java on the client? Or are thick client programs the only way to work offline?
